Expert Lactation Services

NYLCA members are all board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC) who meet the highest educational and clinical standards in infant feeding. Whatever your needs are, a NYLCA IBCLC can help.

You can view our member listings by location or insurance to find someone who can help you.

Home Visits

Learn to breastfeed and work on your breastfeeding challenges in the comfort and privacy of your own home from an IBCLC, a board-certified lactation consultant with the highest level of training in breastfeeding assessment. Your IBCLC will work with you and your baby in your own space, providing an individually tailored experience. This is an especially helpful option for families dealing with breastfeeding challenges--the IBCLC will come to you.

Office Consults

A lactation office has everything you may need to reach your breastfeeding goals. Often less expensive than a home visit, an office visit with an IBCLC is personalized, with specific recommendations from a breastfeeding expert.

Classes & Support Groups

Breastfeeding groups are useful for building confidence, overcoming mild to moderate problems and as follow up after private consultations. The groups listed on this website are facilitated by our IBCLC members and by our affiliate members who are lactation counselors and volunteers.

Why an IBCLC?

We have the highest lactation credential in the field

Most of our members are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) or are aspiring to become IBCLCs. Some members have training in lactation education or peer counseling, such as La Leche League Leaders. Some members have complementary credentials in perinatal support and education and other related health care fields.

The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding has acknowledged that "International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are the only health care professionals certified in lactation care. They have specific clinical expertise and training in the clinical management of complex problems with lactation."

We meet the highest professional and ethical standards

The term "lactation consultant" is not trade marked. Anyone can claim to be a lactation consultant. No one, however, can rightfully claim to be an International "Board Certified" Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) without meeting the rigorous standards of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). The certification status of IBCLCs can be verified by their ID card or on the IBLCE website.
