My own breastfeeding struggles with my three children made me pursue this field. I have a degree in Accounting , and worked as an Auditor for NYC Comptroller’s Office for 8 years. It took persuasion of a loving friend and 4 years of study and training to change my career.
It is my passion to assist parents on their breastfeeding journey and I take great care to accomplish this in a nurturing, compassionate manner. Wanting to breastfeed your baby is natural, but doing it, as I learned myself, doesn’t always come easy. With my extensive training and experience helping families to overcome breastfeeding challenges, I offer lactation education, assistance and support.
My practical, evidence-based approach empowers parents to make informed decisions and achieve their breastfeeding goals. For every parent and baby pair I work with, my focus is on creating an individualized plan that helps make breastfeeding work for them, even after a rocky start.
Sarah was inspired to become a Lactation Consultant after she experienced her own breastfeeding challenges. In order to become a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Sarah trained under Freda Rosenfeld and other well known lactation consultants in New York. Sarah taught group classes and was responsible helping the new moms at Long Island College Hospital in downtown Brooklyn 2010-2012. In July 2012 she took the International Board Of Lactation Examination. My aim is to help moms achieve their breastfeeding goals.
Originally from Melbourne Australia, Sarah moved to Brooklyn, New York in 2007. She has two children, Ella and Tzvi. Ella was breastfeed until 5 months old when Sarah had the realization her milk was diminishing. Two weeks later she found out she was expecting her second child . Tzvi was exclusively breastfeed until 2 years old (solids introduced when Tzvi showed signs). With this experience Sarah understands the challenges of exclusively breastfeed babies as well as bottle and breastfeed.
Currently Sarah has her own thriving private practice in Brooklyn, New York. Offering one on one consultations, childbirth classes and prenatal breastfeeding classes. She is currently accepting new AETNA patients for in-office visits.
Heather McFadden is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and proud member of the New York Lactation Consultant's Association (NYLCA). She has a published article in the Clinical Lactation Journal and has been consulted by Parent's Magazine. She moved to New York City to pursue a career in theater and dance. After performing all over the world as well as on Broadway, she decided to seek a vocation more conducive to raising a family.
Breastfeeding was a challenge with both of her children. With the help of a skilled lactation consultant and La Leche League she was able to overcome the difficulties and continued breastfeeding beyond her original goals. Her experience was life changing. As more of her friends began having children and sought her advice regarding breastfeeding, Heather noticed a growing passion. She loved helping new moms and babies. She began attending conferences, workshops and courses and eventually pursued the mentoring pathway to become an IBCLC. She completed her internship from The Breastfeeding Center of Manhattan at Beth Israel Hospital where she assisted moms and babies in the mother/baby unit and NICU.

I started my international career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1980. This opportunity enabled me to go on to work in over 33 countries in Africa, South-East Asia, and South America. I was privileged to be appointed the Director of Nutrition for Helen Keller International for many years and to consult for the United Nations Children’s Fund, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the International Red Cross. Since the foundation of good nutrition starts with breastfeeding, it was a major component of many nutrition programs that I advised or developed.
My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Washington, a Master of Health Science in International Health from the Johns Hopkins University School Hygiene and Public Health, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Cornell University’s Division of Nutritional Sciences.
Despite all my education, when my son was born in 1999, I needed a lactation consultant. My experience made me realize that many parents in Manhattan have less support for breastfeeding than parents in the developing areas where I previously worked. This prompted me to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. After I became board certified in 2002, I established my own private practice and have complemented home visits with group clinics that offer affordable clinical care in group settings.
One of the most important things that I have learned from years of watching parents with their babies is that there is not just one "perfect way" to parent, there are many acceptable ways to parent. Every feeding relationship between a parent and infant is unique and deserves a customized approach. So whether it is a home visit or a group clinic, I provide individually tailored suggestions to parents as they learn what works best for them as they develop healthy feeding relationships with their babies.I also enjoy presenting at international conferences and webinars and offering local workshops on how lactation consultants can use growth charts and test weighing in ways that enhance infant feeding. Since networking is key to developing a cadre of solidly trained lactation consultants I also devoted seven years as a volunteer on the Executive Board for the New York Lactation Consultant Association. Currently, I am enjoying working with trainees whose enthusiasm and passion will further enhance compassionate and customized care for parents who wish to improve their infant feeding experiences. My son just recently left the nest for college in upstate New York while my husband and I live in Manhattan.

Stephanie Heintzeler is a German educated midwife and acupuncturist as well as US-educated doula, Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Stephanie supports women during all kinds of births and post partum- whether her clients choose a hospital birth, birthing center or home birth; she wants them to follow their own intuition about which birth place feels best. This continues for the postpartum phase. Stephanie has been taking care of breastfeeding mothers since 1996 and completed trainings both in Germany and US.
With her midwifery-experience her clients feel taken care of from a holistic and down-to-earth perspective. Stephanie wants to make sure her clients get the best out of a lactation visit- there is no pressure to nurse if it doesn't agree with the mother. There is no pressure to follow a plan that doesn't make sense for this specific family. Whether someone would like to exclusively breastfeed, mix with formula or pumped breastmilk, feed with bottle only, is interested in induced lactation (LGBTQ-families or adopting parents), caring for a preemie, sick baby or twins, whether someone is a single parent or nursing toddlers together with the newborn- Stephanie is here to make this process easier and give guidance to the new family during the precious time.
Stephanie is the owner of "The New York Baby" where she puts expecting parents/mothers in touch with doulas and baby nurses.
