The New York Lactation Consultant Association (NYLCA) holds an Annual General Meeting for its members each June. This meeting offers an opportunity for members to hear about the state of the organization and to elect board members when these positions open. Board positions are typically held for two years. The meeting offers an opportunity for members to share constructive ideas to enhance the organization. The meeting also includes a lecture or a short workshop.

 NYLCA Workshops

The New York Lactation Consultant Association (NYLCA) organizes workshops for providers to enhance their skills to assist breastfeeding families. Our workshop format will include one or more facilitators who will actively engage participants using one or more following techniques:

  • Present innovative material to stimulate discussion

  • Present case studies to stimulate problem solving dialogue

  • Recruit live volunteers for demonstration and practice

  • Work with tools and equipment for demonstration and practice

We design some workshops to build basic skills for those who are learning how to support breastfeeding mothers and those who may want a refresher. We design other workshops to enhance the skills of those who already have substantial experience.

During some events, the workshop format may be complemented by conference style presentations to confer complementary information.

Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPS) are awarded for attending our workshops.

 NYLCA Conferences

The New York Lactation Consultant Association (NYLCA) organizes conferences for providers to enhance their knowledge about breastfeeding and related fields that may influence breastfeeding. Our conference format will typically include presentations by one or more speakers followed by an opportunity for discussion. We design some conferences to delve into detailed information specifically related to a particular topic in breastfeeding. We design other conferences as a forum to promote dialogue among related professions because it often fosters new insights and mutual enrichment.

During some events, the conference format may be accompanied by workshop activities to build complementary skills.

Continuing Education Recognition Points (CERPS) are awarded for attending our conferences.
